We were visiting a tulip farm in washington state all of them seemed in company of the ones that were in the same rows but this one for some reason grew a bit apart thought it looked sad and decided to remove color from the rest of the scene to add to the lonelines theme. This is the last of this type of pictures for now. I'm looking at things to do with some other of my pics hopefully il post back soon.
talk about a photo saying something, this one does for sure, lonely, sad, isolated, different from the rest, it says them all. I would love to see more pictures that could say something simply by looking at them.
Nice find and idea. You might want to consider leaving color in the leaves and such as well, only making the ground greyscale; now the flower seems ' broken' , and not in a good way.

I'm gonna give your contest a shot, so here goes. I have looked at this particular deviation from your gallery because it caught my attention. Black and white photography is something I have a soft spot for; color is amazing as well but your work here is an interesting blend of both types.
It is almost like you are glorifying the beauty of the flower to make it stand out from the rest of the image which is in a blah setting-- the ground does not seem particularly rich with soil: it appears very dry and almost dying. The leaves are drooping, tempted to curl and die from lack of proper setting and other necessities. The light from the hot looks hot and scorching, which is the reason for the ground and leaves to appear like they're losing their luster.
Purple to me is a color of royalty, sexiness, and uncanny beauty. To show something purple amid a realm of no color is to show that it alone is the only entity that entails life, that possesses any energy. The aura that the purple petals give off are those of a sign of life that doesn't exist in the rest of the photograph. Even the angle that the flower is seen from shows that it is much higher, way above, the rest of dying things in the picture.
All in all, you did a wonderful job with this image and you captured a really interesting view of what it means to be even something as simple as a tulip. Where you considered it as a lonely flower growing on its own apart from the rest of the tulips growing in groups, I feel that this particular one stands out the most from the rest because it stands tall and succeeds at giving all others the message that... though it had no company in its youth, it still grew to be equally tall, bright, and pleasing as the rest... on its own.
Nice photo, the partial b&w works here, but I would have also liked to see the green parts of the flower green.
Also I think the depth-of-field is rather too long, so the background (ground in this case) isn't blurred and it makes the subject still disappear partly in the background. But on the other hand, shallow DoF requires usually a SLR.

thanks for the comment i agree on what you say on the need for blur i really which i could do it with my camera. I'm thinking of getting and SLR what are teh main differences if you don't mind?
